Welcome to your first Taekwondo theory lesson! As a White Belt, you are beginning your journey in martial arts. This lesson will help you understand some of the basic concepts and requirements you need to know at this level. Read carefully — you’ll answer questions after this!
At White Belt level, students learn the basic punching technique. The correct stance for basic punches is the Sitting Stance.
This stance helps improve balance, focus, and strength in your legs. It’s also a good way to practice keeping your body centered while punching straight ahead.
In Taekwondo, you’ll often hear the word “Kihap” (기합) during training.
Kihap means “shout.”
It’s the loud sound you make when performing a strong technique — like a punch or kick — to focus your energy and show confidence. A strong kihap helps you breathe correctly and demonstrate spirit.
Physical strength is a key part of martial arts training.
At White Belt level, all students are required to perform 10 push-ups as part of their fitness routine.
This helps build upper body strength and discipline — two important qualities in Taekwondo.
